sir,
I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to acknow-
You
ledge the receipt of your letter 33835 of the 4th
instant, enclosing copy of a despatch from the
Governor of Hongkong suggesting an amendment of
the present law as to deportation from the Colony,
with a view to placing it beyond doubt that registra-
tion in a British Consulate in China of a person born
in Hongkong is not in itself a bar to the deportation
of such person from that colony.
I am to say in reply that Sir E. Grey has no
objection to the proposed amendment.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
I am,
sir.
Your most obedient
humble servant,
Wangen
